Junior Security and Network Engineer Internship

Salary: £15,000 pa.

Eduserv, an IT services provider, is offering a full-time 1 year paid internship as a Junior Security and Network Engineer.

As a Junior Security and Network Engineer you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and operating Eduserv’s Information security systems. You will also ensure the appropriate confidentiality, integrity and availability of our systems, networks and public web services and provide the primary monitoring and support role within the Eduserv SoC. Your assistance will also be required on the resolution of any network and security issues.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Primary monitoring, administration and maintenance in a change controlled environment of:
              - SIEM and security monitoring solutions
  • Secondary monitoring, administration and maintenance in a change controlled environment of:
              - Checkpoint , Cisco , Juniper, VMWare firewalls and VPN systems
  • Rule sets and configuration relating to firewalls and other perimeter security 
  • Development, Monitoring and reporting on all firewall, intrusion detection and security vulnerability devices and systems, incidents and operations
  • Rule sets and configuration relating to firewalls and other perimeter security
  • Respond and triage all service calls and requests coming in to the Security Operations team. Providing technical support, fault resolution and escalation. 
  • Identify, fix and resolve security incidents and problems in conjunction with the appropriate authorities where necessary
  • Design, test and implement appropriate firewall and network changes maintaining necessary documentation and version control
  • Conduct controlled penetration tests and ensure appropriate measures are put in place
  • In consultation with colleagues define and implement security controls, practices and policies for existing and new systems in line with appropriate standards including, ISO27001, HMG Security Policy Framework and PCI-DSS.

The successful candidate will have a positive attitude, be highly organised and efficient, with excellent communication skills and loads of initiative! You will provide superior customer service with all levels in a team environment. You will also have attention to detail and basic Information Security skills; LAN and WAN support skills and Wireless LAN support skills. Basic LINUX and UNIX systems support and administration knowledge is also required, along with knowledge of Commercial and Open source network security solutions.
